Just an hour West of Houston in the rolling hills of Austin County is one of Texas’ hidden gems, nestled between the hustle & bustle of I-10 & 290. We invite you to come and relax, take in the wildflowers, and breathe some of our fresh country air.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of country life on the 1800-acre Lonesome Pine Ranch, operating as Texas Ranch Life, originally settled in 1823 by one of Stephen F. Austin’s “old 300”. This working ranch is owned & operated by the Elick family and is home to our American Quarter Horse herd, our Texas Longhorn herd, the abundant Texas wildlife, and our working farm & cattle operations.
Choose from seven authentically restored and luxuriously appointed historic Texas homes dating back to the 1850s, featuring original paint, German stenciling, and furnished in antiques, oriental rugs, and unique Texan memorabilia.
Open-range horseback riding over the ranches is one of the most popular ranch activities of our guests. Horses are available for all skill levels from beginners to accomplished riders.
The rolling hills of the ranch with vistas of over 20 miles provide views of Texas ranch country unparalleled anywhere. In the springtime, meadows covered in blankets of bluebonnets and wildflowers seem to stretch on forever. Beautiful native pecan bottoms, live springs, limestone outcrops, and tall prairie grasses make horseback riding over the ranch a favorite.

Special Events
Our home-cooked meals feature experiential authentic, local cuisine with an emphasis on ranch-raised ingredients. They are typically served buffet or family style with tailored menus unique to the season and our guests’ needs.
Grilled on outdoor, open flame fire pits, our Steak dinners are Texas-sized and a legendary favorite of guests. Traditional Texas BBQ cookouts also delight, as well as our many menu options infusing the best flavors of the South, TexMex, Creole & Cowboy Cooking.
Every meal on the ranch ends with a sweet treat, and our desserts are always homemade! Our family recipes have survived the test of time, most handed down over several generations, and whether it’s a pie, cobbler, crumble, brownie or cookie each one is a show stealer, especially when topped with Bluebell homemade vanilla ice cream.
