At Moose Head we believe in family vacations, which to us means families do things together as a family, and not apart from each other. We do not have a children’s program or a children’s dining room. When you ride, it is often just your family along with a wrangler, who is knowledgeable about the horses, terrain, wildlife, flowers, and history of the valley.
Small rides allow you to go at a pace that your family is comfortable with, not that someone else is setting. It also gives you more of an opportunity to see the abundant wildlife that we are so fortunate to have close to the ranch. Elk, buffalo, coyotes, and eagles are often seen on our rides. Because our rides are small and tailored to your abilities, often the back of the line is just 4 riders behind your wrangler. We offer rides in the mornings and afternoons, as well as all-day rides where a delicious lunch is served over an open fire.
If you don’t feel like riding, ask Chris Davenport for a fly fishing lesson- it’s a great way to learn or brush up on some rusty skills. We have a series of well-stocked trout ponds which provide ample opportunities for catch and release fly fishing during any time of your stay.
Our staff is made up of mostly Southern college students who are unfailingly polite, respectful, and well-mannered. They are outstanding role models for your children.
When you get to the ranch Lindsay Davenport tries to go over all the local excursions and opportunities that are available in Jackson Hole such as hiking, scenic and whitewater rafting or a trip into the town of Jackson, just a 1/2 hour from the ranch, for shopping, museums or the rodeo. Should an excursion take you away from the ranch and a meal, our staff will pack you a picnic to order and have it ready in a backpack or cooler for you following breakfast.
Yellowstone National Park is just north of Grand Teton and is a wonderland full of geysers, canyons, wildlife, and unbelievable scenery. Lindsay can find a guide for you or give you a detailed map if you would like to visit there for the day.
We have a spacious deck off of our lodge with comfortable chairs, and planters overflowing with well-tended perennials and numerous hummingbird feeders. This is a perfect place to gather after a ride- grab a cookie and some lemonade and just sit and soak it all in. Talk to new found friends while kids toss a football or a Frisbee. No TV’s or city noises. Our guests tell us this is pretty close to Heaven on Earth!
When not riding or fishing, feel free to throw some horseshoes, play volleyball or croquet on our lawn. Check your emails and play ping-pong in our Lodge. There is a playground area for the little ones with a swing set and a shallow wading pond. Hearty souls can take a dip in one of the deeper ranch ponds. After dinner drive and look for wildlife or join the staff in a pick up softball game. Sunday night cookouts are a highlight of the week with delicious food, singing, s’mores and camaraderie

Special Events
We believe good food to be just as important as good horses. Breakfast, including fresh fruit, homemade pastries, eggs, waffles, sausage are served along with a breakfast special, such as Eggs Benedict. Our lunch buffet includes salads, soup, a hot entree such as cheese souffle, Boars Head meats, fruit, desserts and cookies. Cocktails and appetizers precede dinner where choices include game selections, beef, chicken, fish and pasta and kid’s meals. Special dietary restrictions are not a problem.
Food Options
Our guest cabins are private, comfortable and well appointed. Most have views of the Tetons and many are situated on a pond or by a stream. All have small refrigerators, coffee machines, blow dryers, irons, magazines and game boards. Ice is brought to your cabin every afternoon. All cabins have shower/tub combinations and electric heat and ceiling fans. We have small cabins for two and larger cabins for families. “Sage” is our nicest and largest accommodation, a true home, perfect for reunions.
