5 Tips for Finding Your Dude Ranch Dream Job

We’ve got dude ranch employment tips for you to find your dream job on a dude ranch! Dude ranches are in the midst of their hiring season for the 2024 summer season. You won’t want to miss out on the possibility of working on a dude ranch.

Check Your Bucket List

If you don’t know where to start, look for locations and activities you have always wanted to try! Think about what you would like to be doing on your time off, like visiting a national park? Maybe you love to fly fish? Or do you want to learn more about horses? By using your interests, you’ll narrow it down and be able to start searching for your dream job at a dude ranch!

Think Adventurously

Don’t be afraid to explore outside your comfort zone. You may be adventuring across the country or getting away from all the hustle and bustle for the summer but the perks a dude ranch job offers outweighs all those other opportunities. Your housing and meals may even be included in your employment package.

Be Flexible

Consider a variety of positions and locations. Those who approach the job hunt with an open mind and a willingness to do anything are likely to find their dream job in a great place. Taking a leap of faith and trying a new position like a Kids Counselor, Server, or Housekeeper is a great way to get your foot in the door and open opportunities to explore other positions within the ranch.

Exude Professionalism

Even though this may be a short-term summer job, you’ll want to take the application process seriously and professionally. Using slang and short forms is not a way to reach a ranch employer’s attention. Fill out applications using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation – and be willing to download and fill out PDFs if necessary to apply. Additionally, provide reputable references on each application – workers with limited experience can turn to a teacher, former employer, or coach who can speak to work ethic and aptitudes. Just like any other job application, it is highly recommended to not use friends, family, and/or peers.

Be Able to Commit

Many ranches operate from the middle of May through September or even into October. Your ability to be on-site and work through a full season will put you ahead of the other applicants, and some ranches offer bonuses for staying all season! If you are still in college, try your best to be flexible with your college classes, maybe take online classes, if possible. Your efforts to be flexible and make your schedule work for the dude ranch season will help your odds of getting your dude ranch dream job!
