About Smith Fork Ranch

Nestled in a valley of the West Elk Wilderness of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, between Aspen and Telluride, lies the hidden gem of the Smith Fork Ranch. With the Gunnison National Forest as its surroundings and the Needle Rock Formation welcoming you as you drive in there is no shortage of untouched beauty to be taken in at Smith Fork. The location is far from the only charm, with rustic cabins that have been lovingly restored on their original 1930s-40s footprint with American antiques and original arts and crafts from the hands of the best western and native American artisans , it looks and feels like the old Wild West. Unplug from the hustle and bustle of life with an array of activities to partake in both on the ranch and in the surrounding areas of Colorado's Western Slope. Recharge from your days activities through a culinary experience on our pavilion deck as you watch the mountains become highlighted in alpenglow as the sun sets with local wines and spirits paired with cuisine that is truly farms-to-table. But what Smith Fork Ranch really is, is the quintessential western, wilderness experience, with a few unique dimensions.

Ranch Dining: Every day, each menu is tailored based on the harvest of the day from the farmstead, complemented by sustainably raised meat from ranches across the North Fork Valley and paired with fine wines from our extensive cellar. Come sunset, guests gather on the Pavilion for cocktails to recap their days and sit down for a three-course meal with a signature blend of rustic and sophisticated cuisine. Our culinary team will cater to guests with any special dietary needs, just let us know.
Ranch Activities: Customize your unique family adventure in the same land that the Ute Indians, Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir loved. Horseback ride pristine trails through aspen and spruce, fly fish in private ranch waters, venture into the backcountry with guides, try your hand at sporting clays, hit a bulls eye on the archery course, enjoy a leisurely ride on our mountain bikes or kick it up on the single-track course, or take a moment to wind down by reading a book in the hammock.
Ranch Lodging: Truly intimate, the ranch sleeps just 26 guests in two historic log houses and three quaint cabins that underwent careful restoration to preserve their original historic character with modern comforts. Luxurious touches abound with feather beds and fine linens, cozy down comforters, plush robes, handmade organic soaps and lotions. All cabins and rooms are furnished with American antiques and original art and crafts from the hands of the best western artisans, no cabin is alike.
