About Greenhorn Ranch

Plan your next Dude Ranch Vacation at our premier Guest Ranch in Quincy, California, just 70 miles from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Serving up the best hospitality in the west, Greenhorn Ranch is a great place for families, retreats, meetings, groups, team building and weddings. A western all-inclusive ranch resort, we offer horseback riding, fishing in our fully stocked trout ponds, archery, mountain biking, skeet shooting, swimming, hiking, golf and much more in a rustic ranch setting.

Why do our guests say we are their favorite family guest ranch vacation spot? Because when they are here they feel like family! Catering to greenhorns from around the world, we guide families and vacationers on a genuine horse ranch experience.  With 660 acres and access to over 500,000 acres of public land for riding, more than 80 head horses trained for family riding, a staff of full time wranglers and adventure seekers, Greenhorn Ranch is ready to be your guide. Chef Scott Burns provides a farm to fork elevated ranch cuisine experience. Enjoy delicious cookouts on the trail, campfires and s'mores, country western music and dancing in the saloon;  fun western activities for the kids and real cowboys and cowgirls to teach you about ranch life!

Greenhorn Ranch has been a vacation getaway since 1962. Offering generations of families who want a dude ranch vacation that includes something to do for everyone in the whole family is very important to us. We are located near the Feather River Canyon in the beautiful High Sierra mountains of Plumas County.

While at our California Guest Ranch, you can swim in our heated swimming pool, race frogs, do some fly fishing and participate in our rodeo games. Greenhorn Ranch also offers the perfect setting for meetings, family reunions, weddings and other special events. Check out our new Equine Assisted Learning program, the most effective teambuilding and leadership development activity.

What is ALL INCLUSIVE? All your lodging, meals and activities (INCLUDING HORSEBACK RIDING) are included; making Greenhorn Ranch one of the most affordable vacations you will ever find and the perfect spot for an unforgettable, adventure-filled week spent in the Sierra Nevada Mountains... An adventure and experience that will change your life!

If you want to do a lot of riding, with progressive instruction to develop your riding skills and confidence, then Greenhorn is your choice because our riding program accommodates all levels of experience, ages six to adult. We also have one of the few programs encouraging trotting and loping!

"There is nothing so good for the outside of a man than the inside of a horse." - Winston S. Churchill.

Accommodating all rider levels, we offer four riding categories, based on age and experience. Before your first ride, our Head Wrangler Marty Orenstein will conduct a safety orientation. After that we'll match you up with a horse that suits your riding level from first timer to advanced. Next, you'll have the opportunity to choose the riding group that best matches your skill level (a lope check for guests 12 years old and up is required before being allowed to enter an intermediate or advanced rider group). In each riding group or category, wranglers teach skills appropriate for the group. Each day's ride builds on the skills already learned. This is a low key, fun, challenging, but very safe way to ride. Trotting and loping is included in our riding program under careful guidance and supervision of our professional wrangler staff.

Greenhorn Ranch is located in beautiful Plumas County, "The Friendliest County in California" between the historical towns of Graeagle and Quincy , just 70 miles from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport . The Ranch is also just miles from the scenic Feather River Canyon and the most rugged trans-sierra railroad line in California. This is truly a recreational paradise for people who love horseback riding , fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, fresh mountain air, blue skies, spectacular views, starry nights and unconditional relaxation!

Dining Ranch Dining: We serve three, family style meals provided by Chef Scott Burns and his staff in the Chuck House every day, except when we aren't doing a cook-out lunch or dinner, on the trail.
