Nestled in the Cholame Valley, the V6 Ranch envelops 20,000 acres of the most diverse and alluring country in the heart of California. The V6 Ranch sits just down the road from the tiny town of Parkfield, population 18, and is conveniently located just a four hour drive from Los Angeles and San Francisco. This working cattle ranch allows guests to experience the Cowboy Side of California with authentic Cattle Drives, Cowboy Academies, and spectacularly scenic trail riding. Whether you have horseback experience or are just beginning we have a ride for you. So come soak in the great outdoors and experience your cowboy side!

The V6 Ranch offers over 50 scenic miles of trails to explore with maps and trail markers to show the way. The ranch also offers hiking, photography, over 200 varieties of wildflowers, wildlife, and bird watching.

The tiny town of Parkfield is home to the award-winning Parkfield Cafe. The Cafe serves scrumptious steaks, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more. All of our burgers and steaks are cooked over an oak BBQ pit and are proudly served with local fresh baked bread from Brian’s Artisan Bread Co. 

The Parkfield Cafe and Varian Family cater all of the meals for our trail ride and cattle drive groups. For these groups we serve up home cooking at its finest; steaks, enchiladas, casseroles, fresh salads, and apple dumplings and more.

Parkfield Lodge:

The Parkfield Lodge offers ten of one-of-a-kind cozy rooms, including the 100+-year-old Parkfield Post Office and Water Tower, and the luxurious Cowboy Cabin. The main lodge was built in 1991 by John Varian and his ranch crew. It is constructed with logs and an extensive use of up-cycled materials, ranging from grain silo redwood doors, maple flooring from a WWII USO building, to oak railroad tie porches, and potato harvester chain fences. Everywhere you look you will notice tastefully repurposed materials that reflect beauty and nostalgia. All rooms have full modern amenities that include wifi, satellite TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, air conditioning/heating, tub/showers, with a full complement of toiletries including juniper soap made from wild juniper harvested on the V6 Ranch. The lodge also has a firepit, pool, hot tub, ping pong table and spacious grass areas exclusively for guests.

V6 Ranch Bunkhouse:

Guests on our group trail rides and clinics have the option to stay at our V6 Ranch Bunkhouse located in the Blue Oak Horse Camp. This log building has six cozy rooms, each with two twin beds. These rooms have shared shower and toilet facilities nearby.

Glamping Tents:

Guests on our group cattle drives, trail rides and clinics have the option to stay in one of our Glamping Tents. There are three tents located in the Blue Oak Camp and three in our Mustang Camp where Cattle Drives base from. These tents each have a Queen and Twin sized bed and a big front porch, perfect for stargazing, sun-soaking, and relaxing. These tents have shared shower and toilet facilities nearby.

RV’s, living quarters and camping:

Guests on many of our trail rides and clinics are welcome to bring RVs, living quarters trailers or tents to set up in our Blue Oak Camp. There are water hookups and guests are welcome to use our camp shower and toilet facilities.

The Blue Oak Camp is where our trail rides and clinics are based. This camp is nestled into a blue oak-covered canyon and has a wide range of amenities for guests including:

The V6 Ranch has 20+ experienced ranch horses available.

Guests are booked on a first-come-first-serve basis. Part of the deposit is returned only if a cancellation notice is received 120 days before your trip begins. If a guest cancels after this time, part of the payment can only be transferred to another future date.
