What Makes Latigo Ranch Stand Out?

Staff

At Latigo Ranch, we pride ourselves on hiring an excellent staff of high integrity and training them according to the highest traditions of dude ranching history. They’ll show you the excellence of the West as it lives on under our hats and in the dust of our chaps. Every week, they go above and beyond in service, attention, and compassion. You’ll be spoiled for any other vacation after a week under the care and instruction of the Latigo Ranch staff.

Owners

The George Family has owned the Latigo Ranch for over three decades; Randy and Lisa raised their kids in the rough hills and deep timber of the high mountains that are Latigo Ranch. From the very beginning, our goal is to make you feel like it was your home, too. We constantly try to refine and improve every aspect of the ranch to make it a more perfect experience.

Options & Flexibility

We strive to give you options that will make your experience fun for everyone in the family. If you want to ride horses with your kids, you’ll be able to. If you want to eat meals with them, we’ll seat you together. If you want to play together – whether dancing, archery, hiking, shooting or fishing – we’ll make the opportunities for it to be safe and fun. Or if you want to utilize the space of the mountains to breathe and feel solitude, all you have to do is ask.

Horses

Since we get riders of all levels – some who own their own horses, some who have won national and international championships, and others who have never even touched a horse before – we cater the riding to those interests and skills. After a personal interview with every guest, we try to cater our rides and schedule to meet your goals and needs.

We emphasize instruction, both on the trail and in the arena, hoping to help you improve your riding skills during the week. Kids love playing games on horseback that are intended to improve their control and balance, but we just love watching them feel the freedom of the mountains!
Most rides include no more than 6 riders with a wrangler unless a large family group wants to ride together.

The old stereotype of “nose-to-tail” rides doesn’t apply here. We expect riders to learn independent control while being safe, and we want everyone to be able to ride their horses independently and at a walk, trot, and lope by the end of the week.

And who doesn’t enjoy rounding up the cattle or team penning? All ages from 3 to 70+ think this is the best event of the week.

Setting

Latigo Ranch is in the middle of Colorado’s mountain cattle country. Our neighbors are ranchers and the nearest town feels like the American West.
Secluded and small (32 guests), Latigo is the perfect size to create that sense of “family comin’ home.”

We are surrounded by vast, heavy pine and spruce forest, glorious aspen groves, sage hillsides, and inviting alpine meadows laced with crystalline streams and beaver ponds. Terrain varies from near-level meadows to steep escarpments, yielding spectacular vistas for riders and hikers. Come to Latigo to experience the glory of the Rocky Mountains!

Our 9000′ elevation means delightfully cool summer weather, refreshing for body and soul.

The great thing about an all-inclusive ranch is you don’t have to worry about your fun costing you extra; whether it’s team-penning with a herd of cattle, fishing our stocked trout pond, rafting the Colorado river, rock climbing on the ranch, or shotgun shooting, it’s included – and so are you! We’ll find you an excellent horse from our herd of over 60 horses, you’ll learn how to rope, crack a bullwhip, and throw a tomahawk. The evenings are never without entertainment, be it square dancing, learning cowboy skills, or attending a local cowgirl singer as she serenades us in the evening.

The Ranch kitchen delivers scrumptious choices. Since many folks are health conscious, we include both light and hearty choices at all meals. We gladly cater to special diets with advance notice. And knowing that kids’ tastes are often different, we work to see that they are happy as well.
