A dude ranch vacation is truly a vacation option for the whole family! Dude ranches offer a variety of programming for kids of all ages, with daily schedules that are so engaging kids won’t realize they’re learning along the way. Kids programs and activities, many of which are overseen by dedicated wranglers and staff members are designed to educate and entertain with activities ranging from ropes courses, scavenger hunts, horseback riding, panning for gold, wildlife excursions, overnight camping trips, campfire sing-a-longs, capture the flag, hayrides, and much more.
When it comes to making every member of a family happy on your next vacation, there is no better place to go than a dude ranch!
Most ranches have daily activities offered for kiddos 3+ and many ranches can accommodate infants as well. The teens in the family will have the time of their lives as they zip down a mountain zip line, tube down a rushing creek, or enjoy a ‘teens only’ ride up to a cookout lunch on the trail or an overnight camp-out. In today's society, all parents understand how hard it is to get a teenager excited about a vacation, but dude ranches are the perfect destination to get them off their devices and into the great outdoors! Don’t worry, the adults will have fun too! They will find they can do as much or as little as they would like. Unlimited horseback riding, river rafting, superb fishing, fine dining the list goes on and on.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab the family and come make memories that will last a lifetime at one of these top-rated DRA dude ranches for families!! Give your kids, and yourself, the gift of a vacation where they can learn while having the time of their lives!!

Big Timber, Montana
Watching children have the freedom to run and play under Montana’s Big Sky is one of the best parts of a Sweet Grass Ranch vacation. We don’t have a “formal” separate children’s program, as kids are welcome to participate in all aspects of ranch life. We are lucky to have wonderful kids’ horses and offer “pony” rides, progressing to gymkhanas and a host of horse-related activities designed to build comfort and confidence. Teens often go on their own rides, swim their horses, and participate in cattle work.
Sweet Grass is well set up for kids’ entertainment with a variety of activities, including soccer, volleyball, softball, paintball, campfires, the natural waterslide, and more. Kids are welcome to help feed pigs and bum calves or any of the young animals around the ranch.
Being in the wild west is a very exciting adventure for children. Our staff tries to make everyday fun and memorable for the children by offering western lore of the area, a variety of crafts, nature walks, gold panning, and other adventures. Some of our staff members have even been known to strap on a headlamp and take the kids in search of Night Crawlers in the moonlight. Children six years and older may participate in the above activities (under recreation). For children under six, there are supervised games, swimming, pony rides, etc. For the very young, three and under, there is babysitting available.
If that is not enough we do have many other activities for everyone include gold panning, horseshoe pits, volleyball, archery, target and skeet shooting, barbecues, campfires, swimming in our pool, or relaxing in our hot tub, wonderful wildlife viewing, scenic trips, fly fishing packages, and NEW wilderness photography tours.

So many things to do and experiences to remember!
We love and welcome the little ones at Nine Quarter Circle, and give them plenty to do and see so parents can enjoy their own activities. Kids get to meet new friends (both equine and human!), learn new things, and have our own dedicated staff to keep them entertained. Horses are still the focus even in the kids' program we just add a little twist to keep them wanting more! Saturday at the corral, parents, and kids can participate in gymkhana, or games on horseback. It’s a fun way for kids to try out their new riding skills, and get to spend more time with parents along with their horse buddies.
