About Elk River Guest Ranch

Tucked in the Elk River Valley and almost completely surrounded by the Routt National Forest, the Elk River Guest Ranch has distant views of the Zirkel Mountain Range upstream while also offering a secluded feel with both pine and aspen forests on either side of the valley. Located about 30 minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs, the ranch gives you access to scores of activities in and around town while also providing you with a secluded retreat.

Our horseback riding program is organized based on riding ability and age groups and gives you the opportunity to strengthen your riding skills and horse knowledge throughout the week while also getting you out on the trail to explore, trot, lope, climb mountains, go through diverse landscapes, etc. We do not have set kid's programs but do allow children (3-5) to get ponied around the ranch and those 6-7 years to enjoy different activities from arena work to easier trail options to western arts and crafts. Those 8 years and older can enjoy all of our rides, and we can offer family rides as well as rides catering to different ability levels. Throughout the week, we'll offer an overnight ride as well as an all-day ride to the gorgeous Pearl Lake...you won't want to miss it!

While on the ranch, you also have the options to participate in archery, soak in the river or hot tub, bring your own gear and fish our private stretch of the Elk River, hike our horseback riding trails or explore the Zirkel Wilderness area, bring your own or rent a mountain bike in town and explore by bike, enjoy a trip up the Steamboat Gondola on us for incredible views and to give your legs a rest from horseback riding.

Our evenings are always fun-filled with an orientation the first night and campfire, western dancing, western singers, bonfires, and the Steamboat Rodeo.

One of the benefits of choosing Elk River Guest Ranch is that there's always something for each member of your family or group to enjoy. Whether you choose to sit by the river and enjoy a cup of coffee or go on every horseback ride of the week, we offer you an adventure-filled schedule where you can choose to do as much or as little as you please. And, when there's something in Steamboat that you'd really like to do that's not part of our schedule, let us know and we'll help you find what you need.

While those young buckaroos love visiting the Elk River Guest Ranch, we cater our adventure vacations to families that have children 8+, singles and couples.

Our ranch vacations are 6-night all-inclusive stays during the summer months (June-September), and we offer nightly lodging in the spring, fall and winter months.

Join us for your western vacation of a lifetime!
